If you are easily holiday envious, craving sunshine, needing the sand between your toes, or just looking for a place to go – I must warn you this post might have you heading straight to the Travel Agents, because quite frankly I’m sure I have found the most faultless hotel in the world….
The Sunrise Pearl & Spa, Protaras, Cyprus, even the name sounds amazing, right? To be quite honest I don’t even know where to begin with this review. If you’d rather not read what’s probably going to turn into paragraphs & paragraphs of love for this hotel then I will some it up quickly for you – if you like a holiday for pure relaxation, lots of sunshine, divine food/drinks, stunning rooms, beautiful spaces, friendly, helpful staff who you leave as friends & a beautiful sunrise, BOOK IT NOW – YOU WONT REGRET IT – however if you want all the nitty gritty, that still leads to the same conclusion, continue reading.
From the second we stepped off our Coach outside the hotel, I already felt relaxed and content. The porter took our bags, greeted with an ice cold orange juice and then checked in in seconds. We were then guided to our Swim Up Junior Suite, where the porter then brought our bags and showed us everything we needed to know about the rooms – Which are stunning! The hotel had kindly left us a beautiful fresh fruit basket, a bottle of Champagne on Ice and also a bottle of red – such a nice touch. The rooms are SO well equipped, here are examples: AUX Lead allowing you to play your own music throughout your hotel room & bathroom through the speakers in the ceiling, Robes & Slippers are provided, room service, the plug sockets were already changed to English sockets for us meaning no need for adapters! (Always a pet hate of mine!) There was endless wardrobe, drawer and shelving space meaning we could unpack everything properly, and have everything stored away safe. There is a Mini Fridge that is restocked everyday, a kettle with condiments, and a safe that is free of charge. The maids cleaned your room everyday, and left it looking as new, so you would always come back to a beautiful space, the other amazing little touch was the turn down service, every night after dinner you would come back to your room to find your beds turned down, 2 little chocolates laid out for you (I seriously need to find out what Chocolate that was - amazing!) they would also do another little tidy up, empty the bins & put the night lights on in your room! Such an amazing little touch, that left you feeling so at home. Our mornings would be spent by our swim up pool, ( I would highly recommend getting a swim up room, as you can see from the photographs you literally step onto your balcony and there is a pool in front of you) We would spend our mornings lounging on here, dipping in and out of our pool and it was fantastic being right outside our room so we had access to all our belongings. It felt lovely to have our own little spot, we could play our music through our room and just spend our morning being super lazy and relaxed. Around lunch time we would wander down to the pools, this was the best part, we could easily wander down at lunch & get sunbeds still simply because YOU HAVE YOUR OWN ALLOCATED SUNBEDS!!! Yes that’s right, I will never understand why all hotels don’t do this, the amount of holidays we have spent taking it in turns getting up at 5-6am to ensure we would get a good spot is ridiculous. On the first day you arrive you simply head down to the pool boys and they will walk you round & show you what is available and the different areas you can lay at. We chose beds next to the adult pool which was perfect for us, we were right in the middle of the pool, beach and bar! What else could you need. We would then either order some food to the sunbeds, usually the club sandwich, or head to the poolside restaurant (more on the restaurants soon). In the afternoon the staff would then bring round fresh fruit round which was super refreshing! One mention has to be given to Maria and Angelos who are both members of staff working the pool bar. Maria is the most kind, caring and sweetest person you could ever wish to meet, she literally couldn’t do enough for us, and we left Cyprus with Maria as a great friend ( I cried when we had to say good bye to her!!) She had a smile on her face 24 hours a day and would do everything she could to ensure you didn’t have to lift a finger. Angelos was also a fabulous barman, so fabulous in fact he created me my own cocktail, let him know what kind of flavors you like and leave him to work his magic – and I must add if you do head down to the Sunrise Pearl, be sure to ask Angelo for “The Georgie” Cocktail – trust me, its delicious! Although he never did tell me what’s in it, Damn it! In the late afternoon we would head for a walk along the beach (mainly to work off the mouth-watering lunch) – there is a promenade that runs for miles either way along the front of the hotel, and it is the perfect way to spend an afternoon, we would walk along and stop at different bars and restaurants to grab a cocktail or an ice cream and take in the views of the beautiful sea, and watch the boats go by. Going back to the see, can you believe how beautiful it is?! I couldn’t believe how clear the water was, I thought we may have been dropped in the Maldives and not Cyprus. There is a huge array of water sports outside the hotel, something for everyone. And in only about a 15 minute walk right down the promenade from the hotel you arrive at Fig Tree Bay which was voted the 3rd most beautiful bay in Europe in 2011. Its gorgeous! Moving onto the good stuff, the Food. We were half board at the hotel, which worked perfect for us due to the “Dine-Around” option this meant that you could not only choose each day if you would like your inclusive meal to be Breakfast & Lunch or Breakfast & Dinner, you were also able to choose from around 5 different restaurants in Protaras that are all owned by the hotel. This is such a fabulous idea, and meant that you were able to get out of the hotel a little and see more of the town. Breakfast is a Buffet served on a beautiful terrace looking over the pool & beach, there is everything you could ever want for breakfast, Freshly made omelettes made right in front of you, English Break fast, Eggs however you like, Pancakes, Pastries, Fresh Fruit, Yogurt, Muesli , Cereals – HALOMIIIIII!!! – Yes really! At lunch you had the option of visiting the pool side restaurant which was so lovely, however most days we opted for the Pool snacks being ordered straight to our sunbed, meaning we could stay in the sun and have some light bites with minimal effort ha ha! We usually opted for the club sandwich, however there were salads, burgers, wraps and other delicious options. In the evening you really were spoilt for choice, you could dine in the Buffet (served in the same area as breakfast), The Greek Restaurant, The Pan Asian Restaurant (Lemongrass) – this was our absolute favourite, the Pad Thai Noodles are a MUST try! There is an American Grill called the Reef, this is much more casual and is based in a sports bar, in the sister hotel next door we didn’t try this one, An Italian restaurant (Marcello’s) the pizzas are gorgeous and the Anti Pasti is dreamy! Finally there is also the Fish Bone restaurant which is located in the hotel grounds by the pools and overlooking the beach, this is such a stunning setting in the evening, very romantic and the food was fabulous. The sea bass is great, as well as the dressed crab. Any of the dine around restaurants are available to book throughout your stay via a booking station in the hotels reception, which is super easy to use. A special mention also has to be given to George the restaurant manager who welcomes you with a smile every day, and works around the clock to ensure guests are enjoying their food and always have a full glass! Obviously from the name you have probably gathered the hotel has a Spa, it is hands down the most beautifully designed spa I have ever seen, and the staff are simply fantastic! I was lucky enough to sample 3 of the treatments the spa had to offer, one being a Pedicure (the best Pedicure I’ve ever had), A couples Muscle Melt Back Massage (yes it really is as good as it sounds) and also a Spa Afternoon, this was where we were guided through the different rooms the spa has to offer such as the Saunas/steam rooms, the floating saltwater pools which have the same density as the dead sea so you float, the Snow Room (yes there literally is a snow room!) and finally you can lay back in the relaxation room with a green tea & honey feeling oh so relaxed, its safe to say I struggled to head out that evening because I was like a sloth unable to pick myself up from the comfy chairs & dressing gowns. All these treatments were done on separate occasions but every time I entered the spa I was treated with the same amazing customer service and always left with a smile on my face! Overall I think you can probably see that this hotel is utterly fault-less, they really have thought of everything, and everything they do is done to perfection. You can’t deny that the staff here really do make the hotel what it is, every single member of staff we came across couldn’t do enough to help you and always had a smile on their face. I know this post was super long, but I really couldn’t shorten it anymore – In fact I think I could probably write twice as much but I’m not sure anyone would read it. I really hope you enjoyed this, and I hope I didn’t miss anything out! Please do let me know if you are thinking of visiting the hotel, or if you have any questions about the hotel, Protaras or anything else do let me know as I would be more than happy to help where I can, either pop a comment below or email me ([email protected]) I will leave information below on how you can book the hotel for yourself and links to any other information I can find. We booked our Holiday through Thomson & stayed in a Swim-up Junior Suite which I couldn’t recommend enough! We were Half –Board which I would also recommend. You can book the hotel through Thomson HERE As You Wish, Georgie xo - Other Posts You Might Enjoy -
