I don't like negativity on my blog, I like it to be a place of fun, smiles and rainbows (to far?) but January, for you, for you my friend I make an exception. You are bloody horrible. The days of getting up in the dark and going home in the dark really grate my cheese, and I notice myself feeling less smiley, having lower energy and seriously lacking motivation to do anything. I decided to try and do some self-care in January and make myself less glum, a few little things I found really changed my mood and the month overall for me. So now we are into Feb, I thought I'd share with you a few little tips I have learnt to brighten these gloomy days.
Get Moving!
As much as I am guilty of suggesting my perfect night in to make me feel better would be a glass of wine, box of chocs snuggled on the sofa watching Netflix, I have to admit that sometimes what you actually need to perk up is the complete opposite. Get outdoors, get moving, even if you just walk to your local shop rather than driving to pick up dinner. The fresh air will do you wonders and it will give you a boost of energy that you wouldn't believe!
Bath, Bath and Bath Again.
An obvious basic b*tch choice, but honestly this month Lush Baths have been my SAVIOUR - if you follow me on Snapchat you will have probably seen my demonstrations of about 19 different bath bombs this month, and I'm not even sorry. I have a lot of products from my Lush Boxing Day Sale Haul and I wasn't going to let them go to waste! There is just something so comforting about a bath, and afterwards I always feel 100% more relaxed, calm and ready for a good nights sleep!
Move Your Alarm
If the snooze button is your best friend and you struggle to wake up/get out of bed when you need to on these horrid dark mornings, you might want to do my little technique. Simply put your alarm clock/phone on the other side of the room when you go to sleep. This means that not only will you resist the temptation of scrolling Instagram for another 2 hours, you'll actually have to get up and get out of bed to turn off your alarm! And once I'm up, I'm up!
Light Up Your Life (Well, Kind Of)
A MAJOR pet hate of mine with the dark mornings is doing my make-up, or the lack of it. My room is so dark and even with the main bedroom light on still feels as though I'm working in candle light - there have been many times I have arrived at work and looked in the mirror in horror at WHY DO I LOOK LIKE AN ORANGE CLOWN. This is where the Pebble Grey mirror came into my life and I promise you it will never ever ever ever leave me! The lights are brighter and more natural in colour than any other mirror I have used, it also has a slight magnification meaning I can actually see up close what I'm doing! (However not good when I need my eye-brows doing haha!). You can check out the full range here - I would HIGHLY recommend it!
Plan, Plan, Plan!
January never really has much going on, you are on a come-down from Christmas, no-one has much money and it's just generally a lil' bit rubbish. However instead of worrying about that, spend the time wisely. To me there is nothing more fun than making exciting plans! Book your summer holiday, arrange dates to meet up with old friends, or plan a night in! If you've already got your holiday's booked, spend time researching the destination, and planning what you'd like to do/see when you're there.
Pamper Yoursef (at home)
This doesn't necessarily have to be an expensive trip to the spa/nail salon. Why not create yourself an at home spa? Run yourself a hot bath, (preferably with a Lush Bath Bomb o f course), light your favourite candle, blast your current playlist and relax. Following this hop into your best, most snuggly PJ's and cosy up in bed with a book. You can also do whatever makes you feel your best, I love to whack on some fake tan, paint my nails and maybe do a face mask - leaving me feeling refreshed and brand new!
Beat the DRY
I'm not talking about Dry January here (if you know me, you'll know I bloody love my wine, so that would never happen) - I'm talking about the dryness that this weather brings to your skin/lips/hands. NO. I have always suffered with Dry lips in the winter, and although it sounds like a small, silly thing it can really get me down and lower my confidence. There is nothing worse than trying to apply your FAVE lipstick to be met with horrid, dry, rough patches. Obviously this is where the Carmex comes in, it has literally saved my lips over the years and it will always be my number 1 lip balm - nothing quite compares!
Get Organised
For me January is all about getting ready for the year ahead, although It's super cringe, for me it is a fresh start. And after taking down the Christmas Decs I think there is nothing better than having a bit of a spring clean, out with the old and in with the new. It's also a good time to take a look back at the previous year and remind yourself of what you have achieved. Whether it's small or big, every positive is a step forward. Why not make a little note of the good things you achieved?
I hope this post helped spread some positivity and that you have taken something away from it! And if all else fails, just remember SUMMER IS COMING!
